Артеми́да (др.-греч. Ἄρτεμις, микенск. a-ti-mi-te[1]) — в греческой мифологии[2] девственная, всегда юная богиня охоты, богиня плодородия, богиня женского целомудрия, покровительница всего живого на Земле, дающая счастье в браке и помощь при родах, позднее богиня Луны (её брат Аполлон был олицетворением Солнца). У Гомера — образ девичьей стройности, покровительница охоты[3].
Возможные этимологии имени — «медвежья богиня», «убийца» или «владычица»[4]. Культовыми животными Артемиды стали лань и медведица.
