I am planning to go on holiday. Where is the best tourist spot you have ever travelled to?
I have travelled to many wonderful places. I usually prefer mountains, but I think my favourite destination was India, where I saw the Taj Mahal. It is very famous. It looks like a mosque, but it is actually a tomb.
Where was it exactly?
It is in the north of India. It is in the small town of Agra, which is not far from the capital city of Delhi. Apart from the Taj Mahal, there is very little else to see in Agra. It is a poor town, with a few hotels and restaurants, but that is all. It is easy to reach Agra. We travelled there by train from Delhi.
When did you go there?
I went there many years ago, I do not remember exactly. But my memory of the place is still very vivid. It was one of the most beautiful buildings I have ever seen. I was quite young at the time, and I didn’t normally appreciate such beautiful things.
What did it look like?
It was very tall, and was situated in a large garden with fountains down the middle. The tomb itself was white. It was made of marble, I think.
Sounds very nice. How long were you there?
I stayed there for about an hour. I walked around the gardens, and I sat on a bench and stared at the Taj Mahal. We could not enter the building, unfortunately.
What would you recommend to take with you when you are visiting that site?
A camera, of course. It is a beautiful place. When I look at my photos of the Taj Mahal, I remember my holiday in India. I went to many other places in the country, but my best memories are of the Taj Mahal. Visitors should also take a guide book, because the history of the tomb is very interesting. It was built by an Indian king nearly four hundred years ago. His third wife died while she was giving birth to their fourteenth child. After her death, he was so unhappy and he decided to build the beautiful tomb. She is buried there.
Do you know of any other place that looks similar?
Not really. I have read that the tomb is similar to the buildings in Iran, but I have never been there. The king also built a smaller tomb on the same site, which is nearly identical to the Taj Mahal. It is completely black but much smaller. I do not know of any other place that is similar. That is why it is so famous.
Do you plan to return someday?
Yes, definitely! I would like to return. It is difficult to find the time, but I will return one day.
