Hello, there. I see you just have arrived in the village. My name is Sam. What’s your name?
Oh, hello. I’m Julia. Yes, we just arrived yesterday. It’s a lovely little village. And everyone seems very friendly.
It’s a good place to live. It is small, and everyone knows everybody. I have lived here for fifteen years. Where have you moved from?
Goodness! Fifteen years? That’s a long time to live in one place! Well, we have moved from London, where we lived for ten years.
Well, it is very different here! Why did you decide to move?
Oh, you must know what London is like. It is very busy, and we have small children. We didn’t want our children to grow up in London. It is a huge city, and the air is not clean. We only had a small garden. Now we have a lovely garden, and lots of countryside nearby. It is just perfect for our family.
Will you be working here? What do you do?
I’m a lawyer by profession. But I gave up my job to look after my children. My husband works in a bank. He will continue to work in the bank, but he will travel to London twice a week. During the week, he will stay in our old house in London.
Why did you choose to move to this village?
I have been here many times to walk and relax. It is a very beautiful part of England. My parents also live nearby, so now we can visit them much more often. My husband likes fishing, and there are some good rivers close to the village where it is possible to catch salmon.
Yes, there are many good things about this place. I enjoy the outdoors, particularly walking. What will you do here?
I don’t know exactly. I have a lot of work to do on our new house. We have to paint the walls, and do some work in the garden. But we also have plans to go walking in the hills. I enjoy camping, and sometimes we go with the children for a whole weekend. Perhaps you can show us where to go someday?
If you need me, I will be happy to help you. What does your house look like?
It is the small one at the end of the village. It has a red door and a small rose bush next to the door.
I know the place! It is not far from my house. Do you like the village so far?
Of course! I have met several people already, including John in the shop and Suzanne in the post office. They have both been very welcoming.
And what is the first thing you are going to do?
I am going to cook us a very big lunch. We will have a typical English lunch of Shepherd’s pie. Perhaps you would like to join us? We will be eating at twelve thirty.
