13. Emery Reel - His Hammer is My Axe Before disappearing off the face of the earth, Emery Reel created one of the great forgotten post-rock albums of our time. ...For And Acted Upon Through Diversions is the embodiment of classic post-rock: sweeping melodies, heart wrenching breakdowns, and climatic finales. “His Hammer Is My Axe” was its shining light. Beginning with a slow waltz of harmonious guitars, it slowly builds with each new note and layer adding another depth of emotion to proceedings. As the track progresses, a distorted, cymbal heavy climax takes over before the noise melts away to blissful melodies yet again. There's no doubting that this small-time American band had a special talent for heartfelt tunes, and despite only have one album to their name, they've had a lasting impact. (James Ould)
