13. Guapo - Mictlan
Mictlan is the underworld of Aztec mythology. I don’t need to describe it to you because I expect it feels much like this song—scheming, overcaffeinated keyboards conjure a world of dread and jitters, six-string electrified knives slash out at you from the chaos of stop-start rhythms and constant tempo shifts, psychopomp basslines attempt to guide you through the madness while the monstrous war drums of the dead clatter all around you. Despite the pandemonium, the whole beast remains as ruthlessly organized as The Inferno, and here, just as there, the only way out is through. The second part of a thematic trilogy, Guapo's Five Suns reaches a new height when the listener realizes how accurately "Mictlan" (and the rest of the tracks) portrays its subject matter.
