20. Sleep - Dopesmoker
While “Dopesmoker” makes this list, it could easily be argued that any one track that spans sixty-four minutes is arguably the entirety of an album. Yet, the monstrosity that is “Dopesmoker” epitomizes everything marvelous and entheogenic about stoner metal. With this one track of plodding, bong-shattering riffs and backseat driver drums, Sleep absolutely destroy any competition they would have had from Kyuss holdovers or obstinate Sabbath worshippers. Many have tried to carry the stoner metal bong into the 21st century, but few have had the conviction and determination as Sleep. Lesser bands clock out before a track hits the ten-minute mark, but Sleep takes "Dopesmoker" into extra innings, where the real craziness begins. Bow down to the power of the ultimate fuzz!!
