21. Fennesz - The Stone of Impermanence Venice is the fourth studio album from Fennesz, and more than its predecessors it embraces the shoegazey, overloaded noise that has helped define his sound over the years. The final track, “The Stone of Impermanence,” begins with a devastating blister of Kevin-Shields-worshipping guitar buzz, swirling and mangling itself. As it drifts away, a final blissful atmosphere appears, dusted with pixels and affected sleigh bells, and within this mist, an aqueous melody plays out like a music box stuttering over a math problem. The blast at the beginning and the peace at the end serve as an amalgam of the worlds created on Venice. Fennesz truly perfected his craft of sending guitar-driven pop songs through the digital ringer on this exceptional electronic record. (Nathan Keane)
