Александр Депла опасался браться за эту работу:"Это фильм о звуке голоса. Музыка должна с этим справиться. Музыке приходится иметь дело с тишиной. Музыка должна иметь дело со временем."
Минималистский подход автора подчеркивает борьбу героя с самим собой. Депла использовал повторение одной ноты, что бы представить несвязность королевской речи.
Изначально режиссер хотел снимать сцену коронования без музыки, но композитор настоял на том, что это ключевой момент во всей работе Берти и Лайнела.
Для создания определенного призвука музыка записывалась на старых микрофонах EMI, которые принадлежали королевской семье.
