Just past midnight, flying out of the TV Where should I go? I’m not satisfied
What could you see? You, a collection of light and darkness Stop crying, melting into the machine, oh-oh-oh
Going till my skin could tear away Holding my breath I swallow the whole world
Staring at the glass rain and all the lit-up buildings Am I dreaming here, while I'm still myself?
The TV screen (Who are you?) Telling me goodbye
Flying down this highway Till I turn into a madly bright star What I believe in isn’t God It’s just the smell of my boiling blood
Going till my skin could tear away Holding my breath I swallow the whole world
Going till all those bastards tear away Am I dreaming here, while I'm still myself?
The TV screen (Who are you?) Telling me goodbye Speed is everything All I feel is terror
Flying down this highway Till I turn into a madly bright star What I believe in isn’t God It’s just the smell of my boiling blood
Flying off this highway Till I turn into a biting cold wind What I believe in isn’t dreams It’s just me, going and going
Note: Two interesting anecdotes about the song: Sakurai has said in interviews that while he was living in Gunma after finishing high school but before becoming Buck-Tick's vocalist, he used to skip work and race his car along the coutry highways (for those of you who don't know, there is just about nothing in Gunma, just a lot of flat land, fields and mountains.) Anyway, I wonder if it was those memories he was channeling when he wrote these lyrics. When the band was recording Kurutta Taiyou, Sakurai recorded the vocals for this song close to the deadline for the recording period. As a result, he had to record at three in the morning, and he said in another interview that he barely remembers the recording because he felt like he was sleeping the whole time. So for those of you who wondered why the vocals in this song are strange, that's why.
