You who tarry by the golden spring Of secure youth, Think still of the trout: If you see danger, hurry by! Most of you err only from lack Of cleverness. Girls, see Seducers with their tackle! Or else, too late, you'll bleed.
- Christian Friedrich Daniel Schubart (1783)
'Plays Schubert' was created between 2011 - 2016 as a reinterpretation of Franz Schubert's 'The Trout', using an edited and rearranged MIDI file to play all sounds from the stock instruments of Logic Pro 9, the presets from Yamaha DX7, Yamaha DX100, Casio CZ-101, Korg M1, and Yamaha TQ5, w/stock lopass filters and EQ, convolution reverb, Soundhack delay, tape splicing, Sony Tapecorder 366, Roland RE-501 chorus echo, and multiband distortion.
All music by Will Long, based on original compositions by Franz Schubert.
Created as a translation of time frames, the evolution of classical music as interpreted by the new listeners in relation to current events and contemporary cultural progression/regression, and an example of symbolism through irony.
Cover painting is a detail of Paul Baum's 'Landschaft bei Sluis', (1906)
