Deep in the woods there lies a gem Frozen past with a shape inside Her struggling hands were stilled halfway They won't shield the astonished eyes Now past scars swarm in soughs As night billows with the dawn Now the smell of forgotten blood Wafts on
One day a nymph stopped by an oak As its rustling boughs sighed “Be mine” She felt her mouth weave a sweet song Her arms grew deep into the trunk Then a glitter caught her eye Sunlight, deep in the woods Then a crooked path spread out As she tore loose
But when that singing died The echoes laughed “But the one you leave behind There are no paths”
From tree to tree, she chased that gleam Resin keepsakes in her hair Her back grew heavy with what she'd keep Till she fell beneath that weight Then the path was gone, like that “I've lost my way”, she wailed Then the air spun golden threads She screamed as they wove a shell
But soon the screaming died The echoes laughed “But the one you leave behind There are no paths”
Deep in the woods there lies a gem Frozen past with a shape inside Her struggling hands were stilled halfway They won't shield the astonished eyes Now past scars swarm in soughs Dawn brought pain and truth Now an amber seed gleams In the woods
