Sequestration

The, uh, Congress with sequestration, which I think most of you know is the fallback plan on the budget for, uh, federal government –

I, I work for a software company that does a lot of work with the federal government, and right now, two things are happening:
Contracts that we have in place already, funding to keep them going is getting delayed, so were trying to figure out how to essentially put people into suspended animation;
that, you know, we, we know the projects gonna start in another month to six weeks, but in the meanwhile, we dont have funding from the government to do it.
The other thing is that some of the new contracts that we’ve bid, where we’ve put proposals in, the proposals are all gonna be delayed, so theres really a lot of work that the government had planned to do thats gonna be delayed.
So for us, were a small company, maybe 30 people, and its pretty difficult to go through that when maybe a third of your workforce suddenly doesnt have work cause Congress isn’t gonna fund it.
But we need to keep them around because we need to restart the project as soon as funding starts again.
So, uh, its a difficult situation, but I’m sure a lot of people are in a lot worse because of it.
I know federal employees, all are getting cut 20 percent this summer.
They have to take one day off a week. And that’s gonna last through the end of September, which is really hurting a lot of people who need that paycheck (зарплата).

So that’s, uh, that’s the news event: sequestration and the effect on small businesses and federal workers.
