This week’s football expression is the cliche ‘can’t buy a goal’. This means that a player – usually a striker – has not scored a goal in a long time and does not really look like scoring either. The idea behind the phrase is that buying something is fairly simple but as the striker is going through a poor run of form he or she is not even able to do that. Now currently, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is lamenting the fact that his forwards are not hitting the target – they are not scoring; they have missed so many chances that they are unable to even buy a goal.
