The score of \"Jack in the Box\", published posthumously, is one of several partitions that were found behind Satie's piano, after his death, in the disorder of his apartment in Arcueil.

Begun in 1899, this composition could have become one of the most important works of Satie. First conceived as a piano piece, this composition opens the doors to a stylized jazzy circus music, but served raw in the form of three successive ragtimes.
