Tristan heard and was very happy;

He cut a hazel tree in half,
then he squared it.
When he had prepared the wood,
he wrote his name on it with his knife.
If the queen noticed it-

that the piece of wood had come
from her love.

Он спросил их о новостях
о короле - что он делает.
Они сказали ему, что баронам был дан запрет.
Они должны были прийти в Тинтагель,
где король хотел провести суд;
они все придут на Пентекост,
там будет веселье и отрада,
и королева там тоже будет.
Тристан услышал это и развеселился;
она не сможет, там появившись,
быть им не замеченной.

Он срубил орешник пополам,

своим ножом он выцарапал на ней своей имя.
Если королева заметит -
а она должна искать,
так как это случалось раньше,
и если она заметит это сейчас,
то будет знать, что этот кусок дерева
тут неспроста)
