In 1992 Jan Gunnar Hoff made a formal debut concert at the Harstad festival in Northern Norway, presenting compositions for piano trio and percussion, in shape of a suite in 4 movements. Hoff's debut was probably the first jazz related concert of this kind and resulted in ecstatic acclaim from the audience and critics. His Harstad suite formed the concept of first solo recording “Syklus”, with drummer Audun Kleive, saxophone player Knut Riisn?s and bassist Bjorn Kjellemyr .
The North Norwegian pianist Jan Gunnar Hoff is now generally acknowledged as one of Norway's leading jazz musicians. The "Syklus" album, which is Jan Gunnar Hoff Group's debut album, has been described as "the vitamin injection of 1993". It is definitely a key recording in the Norwegian catalogue, as the group is one of the most popular in Norway and is in great demand at festivals and jazz clubs.
