City On Our Knees [Radio Version] |̲̅̅●̲̅̅|̲̅̅=̲̅̅|̲̅̅●̲̅̅|...
If you gotta’ start somewhere why not here? If you gotta’ start sometime why not now? If we gotta’ start somewhere I say here If we gotta’ start sometime I say now
Through the fog There is hope in the distance From cathedrals to third world missions Love will fall to the earth like a crashing wave
Tonight’s the night For the sinners and the saints Two worlds collide in a beautiful (glorious) display (‘Cause) it’s all love tonight When we step across the line We can sail across the sea To a city with one King A city on our knees A city on our knees
Tonight could last forever We are one choice from together Tonight could last forever
Tonight could last forever We are one choice from together Family, we’re family
Oh, tonight could last forever We are one choice from together You and me, yeah you and me
If we gotta’ start somewhere why not here? If we gotta’ start sometime why not now?
Behind the Song: “This song that was just God-breathed through me and my friends. It was 20- to 25-minute write in the studio. I never write songs that fast; it typically takes me three or four months to write a song. But with this, it was like, ‘All right, God, I get it. You chose to breathe this through us quickly.’ I was glad that I got out of the way enough for God to shoot it through me; I didn’t wrestle him for once, you know what I mean? When I went home that night, we had everything but the bridge, and I wanted to say something that summed up the whole song. That’s when I came up with, ‘Tonight could last forever / We are one choice from together.’ We’re all just one choice from turning things around, from reconciliation, from unity, from God.” - tobyMac
