London’s revered DJ, producer and remixer details the sleek and deep productions behind her steady rise in the global club scene.
From making rap, dub and trip hop inspired tracks at school on a demo version of Cubase, British-Japanese artist Maya Jane Coles has become one of London’s most in-demand DJs and producers. Hot on the heels of several acclaimed house EPs, the release of her debut album Comfort in 2013 showed that the world had only seen a glimpse of what Maya Jane Coles could do, with tracks taking a deeper, darker leaning, including collaborations with artists from Tricky through to Karin Park. Since being exposed to the dubbier side of electronic music through weekends spent in East London clubs and warehouse parties, Maya has also developed her Nocturnal Sunshine moniker, honing and demonstrating another side of her talents as a producer. Not content with just writing and producing her records, a typical Maya Jane Coles release is usually arranged, mixed and released by herself, via her label I/AM/ME, and she occasionally designs her own artwork too.
