ーぼくを見つめて、何もいわない、この人は。

-boku wo mitsumete, nani mo iwanai, kono hito wa.

-She stared at me, without saying a single word.

困っているようで、哀しいようで、
　　　怒っているようで、泣いているような、
　　　　　　　　とても難しい顔をしていたけど。

komatteiru you de, kanashii you de,
　okotteiru you de, naiteiru you na,
　　totemo muzukashii kao wo shiteita kedo.

But she looked as if she was troubled,
　as if she was sad, as if she was angry,
　　as if she was crying, all at once.

ぼくは、言ってやったんだ。だいじょうぶだって。みんな、そう言っていたから。

boku wa, itteyattan’da. daijoubu datte. min’na sou itteita kara.

So I told her, that everything was alright. After all, everyone told me the same.

信じることは素敵なんだー

shin’jiru koto wa suteki nan’da-

Just how wonderful it is to believe.-

ーぼくは、知らなかった。

-boku wa, shiranakatta.

-I didn’t know.

たった一つ、「大事なもの」が、
もし、在るならば、いったい何を選べばいいんだろう？
答えを求めて、家にも帰らず、探し歩いた。

tatta hitotsu, “daiji na mono” ga,
moshi, aru naraba, ittai nani wo erabeba iin’ darou?
kotae wo motomete, ie ni mo kaerazu, sagashiaruita.

If really there can only be one thing
That you hold “most important”, just what should you choose?
Looking for the answer, I left home on a journey.

ーそしていつかぼくは、あの人に出会ったんだ。

-soshite itsuka boku wa, ano hito ni deattan’ da.

-Then, I met her.

輝くような笑顔とともに告げられた「答え」
絶対の自信を帯びた、ああその、金の瞳。

kagayaku you na egao to tomo ni tsugerareta “kotae”
zettai no jishin’ wo obita, aa sono, kin’ no hitomi.

Together with a dazzling smile, and her golden eyes
Glowing with absolute confidence, this was her “answer”:

「それは、ただ、簡単なのさ。
“人を信じて生きてゆけ”
それ以外に大事なものなど、あるはずないぜ」と、力強く。

“sore wa, tada, kan’tan’ nano sa.
‘hito wo shin’jite ikiteyuke’
sore igai ni daiji na mono nado, aru hazu nai ze” to, chikaradzuyoku.

“Well that’s simple!
‘Live your life, believing in others!’
There couldn’t be anything more important than that!” she said, emphatically.

夢がある、現と共に。
互いに手を取りながら。

yume ga aru, utsutsu to tomo ni.
tagai ni te wo torinagara.

Dreams exist alongside reality.
Each holding the other’s hand.

ぼくはその目で、聞いていたんだ。
その口が、奏でる言葉、真実の詩を。

boku wa sono me de kiiteitan’da.
sono kuchi ga kanaderu kotoba, shin’jitsu no uta wo.

Watching her eyes, I listened in earnest
To the words flowing from her mouth, this song of truth

ぼくらが、歩くこの道が、
歪んでなど、いないように。

bokura ga, aruku kono michi ga,
yugan’de nado, inai you ni.

As if this road we walked on
Together, wasn’t twisted at all.

真実はきっと、そう。
ただ、まっすぐに、続いているのか。

shin’jitsu wa kitto, sou.
tada, massugu ni, tsudzuiteiru no ka.

Is this what “truth” is really like,
Going on and on, straight and unwavering…?

ーぼくは、わからなかった。

-boku wa, wakaranakatta.

-I didn’t know.

たった一つ「大事なもの」は、
人によって、それぞれ違っているんじゃないかと。
答えを求めて、更なる道を探し歩いた。

kotae wo motomete, sara naru michi wo sagashiaruita.

If really there can only be one thing
That you hold “most important”, isn’t it different for every person?
Looking for the answer, I went further on my journey.

ーそしてぼくは、あの人たちに出会ったんだ。

-soshite boku wa, ano hitotachi ni deattan’ da.

-Then, I met a group of people.

ぼくが受け取った答えは遍く通じていた。
結局全てはあの人と同じ「信じること」

boku ga uketotta kotae wa amaneku tsuujiteita.
kekkyoku subete wa ano hito to onaji “shin’jiru koto”

Out of all the answers I was given, one thing was always the same.
That was just as that one person had told me, “believing”.

「人を信じ、生きてゆけ」と。
「人の言葉を信じよ」と。
「大事なものがそばにおわすから、力の限り信じなさい」と。
「信じられるものこそを自らの手で選び取れ」と。
「ただ、己の正義を信じよ」と。

“hito wo shin’ji, ikiteyuke” to.
“hito no kotoba wo shin’ji yo” to.
“daiji na mono ga soba ni owasu kara, chikara no kagiri shin’jinasai” to.
“shin’jirareru mono koso wo mizukara no te de erabitore” to.
“tada, onore no seigi wo shin’ji yo” to.

“Believe in people, and live your life.”
“Believe in what others say.”
“What’s important is always right beside you, so believe in that with all your heart.”
“Pick with your own hands something that you can believe in.”
“Believe in what you think is right.”

さぁ、もう疑うことはない。
真実の詩を唄おう。

saa, mou utagau koto wa nai.
shin’jitsu no uta wo utaou.

There’s no room left to doubt.
Let us sing this song of truth.

最後に出逢ったあなたは、何も言わずにいたけれど、
その深い瞳はぼくをまっすぐ射抜いていた。

saigo ni deatta anata wa, nani mo iwazu ni ita keredo,
sono fukai me wa boku wo massugu inuiteita.

Then you, who I met last, didn’t say anything but,
Your deep eyes pierced right through me.

…もしかして、泣いているの？
何が悲しくて、泣いているの？
ぼくのことを探していたと、その様子からわかったけど、

…moshikashite, naiteiru no?
nani ga kanashikute, naiteiru no?
boku no koto wo sagashiteita to, sono yousu kara wakatta kedo,

…Are you, crying?
Are you crying, because something has made you sad?
I could tell that you were searching for me though…

ぼくはもう、迷わないよ。
胸に宿したこの光。
真実の詩、遠く響けよ。

boku wa mou, mayowanai yo.
mune ni yadoshita kono hikari.
shin’jitsu no uta, tooku hibike yo.

I won’t be lost anymore.
I’ve found this light in my heart,
So let this song of truth ring!

そうして幾千里を照らす標となれ。
ぼくらが、歩いていく、この道を、まっすぐに。

soushite ikusen’ri wo terasu shirube to nare.
bokura ga, aruiteyuku, kono michi wo massugu ni.

Let it be a like a lighthouse shining for thousands of miles.
As we walk straight ahead, down this path together.
