I know we are at T in the Park, so I probably shouldn’t talk about Glastonbury… but I’m going to anyway. You played on the John Peel stage and you also played with the Arctic Monkeys of course on the Pyramid Stage, you played 505 with them. How was the Glastonbury experience this year for you? Because it seemed pretty huge!

It’s so strange. It’s just like a weird whirlwind, you know, and when you’re on the midst of being on tour and stuff and then you’re there and then your set’s over… you’re sort of in and out really, you don’t really have time to take it in. It’s probably one of those things where you’ll look back and think ‘wow, that was a good day.’ But it was great, it was a great day, and I’m very fortunate to have done what I’ve done.

Definitely something to tell the grandchildren I think, Pyramid Stage is not too shabby.

That’s what you’ve got to do. Obviously you’re great mates with Alex Turner and you have written a new song with him…

We just did this tune which was like a B-side and I put it out on the quiet on iTunes. It was just this thing where, he lives in LA, and I went over there around April time and we didn’t plan it but we were just pissed in this night-club and we were just talking about tunes and had this idea and recorded it. It’s just this little song called Get Right and it’s only two and a half minutes, a little rocking song.

Also you’ve been working with Professor Green on Are You Getting Enough? What was it like working with Professor Green because obviously you’re quite different musicians?

It’s something out the box that isn’t it? You wouldn’t expect that, you know. We just became mates. We had a mutual friend and we started hanging out a bit and he heard that song Are You Getting Enough? It had different verses on it; it didn’t have rapping on it. I was listening to a lot of The Prodigy at the time and was trying a song that was bit harder, but it wasn’t really fitting with my stuff. But he was like, ‘I really love that’ and I said, ‘well if you want it you can have it.’ So I gave him it and he changed it, did his verses and arranged it and made it what it is. Now he’s put it out there. And again it’s one of those things where you forget that you’ve done that, but I think it’s doing alright for him.

I think it’s great that two completely different musicians have come together and I also think that Professor Green seems like a really nice, down-to-earth guy.

He’s such a nice lad, I wouldn’t do it if he wasn’t. He’s a good mate now and it’s something out the box which is a bit inspiring.

You want to keep pushing yourself creatively…

Exactly… but you can’t go too far!

You’re having a very busy summer. You’ve come back from Italy today to be at T in the Park, France tomorrow and you’re going to Benicassim, Zurich, Brussels… all over! Where’s your favourite place to play?

There’s so many great places to play, I’m very lucky to go all over. It was the first time I’d been in Italy last week and we did this gig in Rome and it was really cool. I think it is a place we will be going back to, there was a lot of love there.

They say Rome is a city you always have to go back to. How does playing in Europe compare to playing at home?

It’s sort of a different thing but they can be quite obsessive in Europe. I think because you’re not from there and you probably only go once a year. You feel very special there, not that you don’t feel special here, but it’s a different sort of thing. They probably think ‘who’s that guy who’s trying to look like The Beatles? Who’s this English guy with the tight suit on?’
