04. Illusionary white night

The eternal snow continues to fall on a town enclosed by winter.
This peaceful town of eternal white is the place closest to the sky.

“The boys of this town have never known the changing of seasons.”
‘The girls of this town have never known the sweetness of a gentle breeze.’
“The sound of the snow falling as though by a curse is the sound of the death of spring.”
‘Its melody is of solemn, dreadful profundity.’
“Two shadows will transcend the night.”
'One soul will transcend eternity.’

What saddens you, and darkens your eyes,
is this gray plateau that freezes you up to your fingertips.
What suits you is a thawed-out snowdrop,
its blades of grass shining vividly, and a clearing, blue sky.

Lovely Yulicia, pale from being covered in snow…
I’ll always be with her, no matter what.

We, who can no longer laugh so easily,
are wrapped up in a winter as dark as ashes.
Beyond the white night, we looked into the distance
until the bells of dawn stopped tolling.

If you raise your hands from up this high
and reach towards the twinkling stars, then —
see, it’s not a metaphor or hyperbole —
it’s like you can touch them!

The words that had suddenly become hollow
were plunged into an eternal winter.
The white night faded with the toll of a bell,
like a flower that rotted without blooming.

It seemed like someday they would be buried up to their very hearts in snow.
To escape it, they broke into a run.

We, who can no longer laugh so easily,
broke out of a winter as dark as ashes.
We aimed for a place far away, beyond the white night.
We expatiated upon our uncertain fantasy.
