I found a fox in the woods She was cold and hungry I gave her all that I could I was sure that she loved me And we were thick as thieves
Through the winter I kept her warm Fed her all she desired And she told me in so many words I was the one who saved her life And she would never forget And I would never be left
But then one day I ran out of bread And wood to keep the fire And when I woke I found she had fled To the house down the river And I cried all night Because I had thought she was mine
