Avijjâ paccayâ sankharâ
Ignorance conditions kamma formations.
Sankharâ paccayâ viññânam
Kamma formations condition consciousness.
Viññâna paccayâ nâma-rūpam
Consciousnes conditions mind-matter.
Nâma-rūpa paccayâ salâyatanam
Mind-matter conditions the six sense bases.
Salâyatana paccayâ phasso
The six sense bases condition sense impressions.
Phassa paccayâ vedanâ
Sense impressions condition feeling.
Vedanâ paccayâ tanhâ
Feeling conditions craving.
Tanhâ paccayâ upâdânam
Craving conditions clinging.
Upâdâna paccayâ bhavo
Clinging conditions becoming.
Bhava paccayâ jâti
Becoming conditions birth.
Jâti paccayâ jarâ maranam soka parideva dukkha
domanassu-pâyâsâ sambhavanti
Birth conditions old age, death, grief, lamentation, pain, depression and despair.
Evametassa kevalassa dukkha-khandassa samudayo hoti
Thus, the entire mass of suffering arises.

Nirodha - Cessation

Avijjâ-yatveva asesa viragâ nirodhâ sankharâ nirodho
With the total and final cessation of ignorance, the kamma formations cease.
Sankharâ nirodhâ viññâna nirodho
With the cessation of kamma formations, consciousness ceases.
Viññâna nirodhâ nâma-rūpa nirodho
With the cessation of consciousnes, mind-matter ceases.
Nâma-rūpa nirodhâ salâyatana nirodho
With the cessation of mind-matter, the six sense bases ceases.
Salâyatana nirodhâ phassa nirodho
With the cessation of the six sense bases, sense impressions cease.
Phassa nirodhâ vedanâ nirodho
With the cessation of sense impressions, feeling ceases.
Vedanâ nirodhâ tanhâ nirodho
With the cessation of feeling, craving ceases.
Tanhâ nirodhâ upâdâna nirodho
With the cessation of craving, clinging ceases.
Upâdâna nirodhâ bhava nirodho
With the cessation of clinging, becoming ceases.
Bhava nirodhâ jâti nirodho
With the cessation of becoming, birth ceases.
Jâti nirodhâ jarâ maranam soka parideva dukkha
domanassu-pâyâsâ nirujjhanti
With the cessation of birth, old age, death, grief, lamentation, pain, depression
and despair cease.
Evametassa kevalassa dukkha-khandassa nirodho hoti
Thus, the entire mass of suffering ceases.
