Audio footage of a horrified Joaquin Phoenix calling 911 after his brother River Phoenix started having what appeared to be a seizure inside a nightclub called The Viper Room in Hollywood, which at the time was owned by actor Johnny Depp who was on stage performing music with his band.

According to friend Bob Forrest, River announced that he wasn't feeling good and thought he may be overdosing which was moments before he walked back into the crowd to listen to Johnny Depp's band and then actually overdosed. Shouts went out over the mic to call 911 and River was taken outside of the nightclub.

Johnny who was good friends with River knew someone had overdosed in the crowd but had no idea it was River. Johnny later called Bob to ask him how \"his friend\" was, not knowing it was River who had overdosed or that anyone had died. During the phone call Bob said \"Dude, Rivers dead\" and then Johnny said \"Oh my god\" and hung up.

According to 911 audio, Joaquin believes River may be overdosing on Valium. However it was determined that Cocaine and Heroin was the culprit. It was later determined that he died of a drug overdose which caused heart failure.

This call took place in 1993 on Halloween night when River Phoenix was only 23 years old. Joaquin had only just turned 19 years old 4 days earlier. At the time, audio of the 911 call was played publicly by media on radio and television stations numerous times. It was reported that Joaquin disappeared from the public for about a year after dealing with this issue and the death of his brother.
