«’39» — Является тридцать девятой песней в студийной дискографии группы. В отличие от многих песен Queen, ведущую партию поёт не Фредди Меркьюри, а Брайан Мэй.
В песне повествуется короткая фантастическая история о добровольцах, отправившихся в космос. Для них на момент возвращения на Землю, из-за изменений течения времени, прошёл всего один год, а на Земле прошло уже 100 лет.

Брайан Мэй в интервью «The Guitar Greats» так описал сюжет этой песни: " '39 — это научно-фантастическая история, придуманная мной, это история о ком-то, кто ушёл и покинул свою семью, и из-за эффекта замедления времени, когда люди на Земле прожили долгие годы, он прожил гораздо меньше, и, когда возвратился, он прожил год, а они — 100, поэтому вместо того, чтобы вернуться к своей жене, он вернулся к своей дочери, в которой видит свою жену. Думаю, что на меня оказал воздействие рассказ Германа Гессе «Река», я думаю, что когда человек покидает родной город и долго путешествует, а затем возвращается, видит город словно с другой стороны реки, со своим опытом рассматривает его совершенно в другом свете."
