I love the punk scene, but sometimes I think it gets a little exclusionary. This is supposed to be a place, free of all the terrible stuff that plagues the real world, but sometimes kids like to bring the terrible stuff from the real world (sexism, racism, ageism) into our little community. I just wish we could leave all that baggage at the door and sing some songs for a few hours every week. lyrics I’m not punk enough for punk and I’m folk enough for folks And I sometimes I hide my hurts with dirty jokes But when we get together I always feel better It’s the people that sing at shows I like the most It’s the people that sing in crowds I like the most
Man, I lie everyday, How you doing? “I’m okay” So in songs I write the the words that I’m too afraid to say So I hope you’ll sing along As I sing this stupid song Because its people that sing at shows I like the most Yeah the people that sing in crowds I like the most
So thank you for being my friend Yes thank you for being a friend I might not always say it but tonight, damnit I’ll sing it Thank you for being my friend
