there was a time, I mean the early 90s
when someone finally found out
that the entire music scene was male-dominated
and that it had to be smashed

it was an underground movement, feminist punk rock
zines, chapters and DIY
they had indie labels, K Records
Kill Rock Stars and many more

simple riffs, but they carried a message
radical ideas and the sound was raw
solos played with a pointed finger
if they had a solo at all

they found their voice through arts and music
it found its way through the internet
it found its way into my teenage bedroom
and I got a guitar for Christmas

when I was a baby feminist
whiskey was my only interest
i used to drink whiskey
and I used to drink beer
for the revolution

feminist theory, what was that?
but I found a manifesto
on a riot grrrl site
and I printed it out

when I was a baby feminist
I bought a spray can of purple paint
feminist graffiti All over the place
they were more than simple

when I was a baby feminist
my favourite band was Bikini Kill
i listened to their music
but I didn’t get the words
but I got the idea right!
