“Infatuation”

Eyes are windows to the soul, the openings to all our sorrow.
What we desire, is sometimes here today and gone tomorrow.
Sitting alone on a park bench wondering where it all went wrong.
She thought that a picture would give her the words to a love song.
The object of desire, was it love or just some adolescent infatuation?.
An imaginary fantasy, a figment of her overactive and fertile imagination.
She followed her obsession to Belgrade, the end of her yellow brick road.
Hoping that the frog she would be kissing would not be a Horny Back Toad.
She knew that he lived in Belgrade but had absolutely no idea where.
Was there really any hope she would casually bump into him there?.
In her heart there was only one choice that she felt she could make.
Deciding that against all odds it was a chance she just had to take.
As unbelievable as it sounds, she did finally manage to track him down.
An unhappy ending, she returned broken hearted back to her home town.
The morale of this story is don't fall in love with figments of your imagination.
Reality is often far less appealing than our own perfunctory creation.
