You’ll recall this track was on the album, Free Soup Social and like (a) Charlie, I’m prepared to say “I got it wrong”; even to the extent that I’m into the Joe Meek-ska-punk of the original version! And as they say, “Hey! Margareta why do you look so sad, Hey! Margarita it’s not that bad.”
I suspect its due to the onset of the BBQ summer heat this week as it’s “not that bad” at all as the remixes kick off with The Losers (they of the ‘Thou Shalt Always Kill’ remix) with electro warped rap house that is party time club bouncer (not the looking menacing type on the front door but the type on the dancefloor).
But the killer version is the Dub Pistols vs. The Voodoo Trumpet Quintet ska-dub mix by Floored Capri that’s ready for the mixtape. And the one that’s on the crossover tip is the bass warp dubstep of 2 Bit Thugs. I can’t be the only one that’s noticed there the sniff of a obligatory dubstep backlash overplay in the air by some scribes, but not here thou’ (as yet). The bass is the word and the word is dubstep, even in this dilute-remix format.
Like I say, I even like the original version now; perhaps it’s ‘cos I’ve not been home at 3:30 recently, perhaps ‘cos I’m a bit of a mess, perhaps it’s ‘cos I’m drinking tequila rather that a margarita? Oh well - hey hey hey, I say!
