PHRASAL VERBS & IDIOMS:
"to grow apart"
To become less close to somebody in a relationship e.g.: We were good friends in high school, but we've grown apart since those days..

"to grow away from"
This is the same as the one above- it means to become distant and lose touch with someone e.g.: It's natural to grow away from your parents as you age.

"to grow back"
Hair or fur starts to grow again after it has been cut or damaged e.g.: What a terrible hair cut! Well, at least it will grow back.

"to grow on (someone)"
This means to gradually come to like something more e.g.: You know, that new wallpaper is starting to grow on me. I think I like it now.

"to make inroads"
1) To reduce the amount of something e.g.:
Having two people living with us has made inroads into our food supply
2) To advance successfully into a new area e.g.: A lot of western companies have been making inroads into China lately

"to take the initiative"
To lead people by being the first to act e.g.:
A good leader must have the ability to take the initiative.

"(to be / fell) ill at ease"
To be nervous, especially in a social situation e.g.:
I felt a bit ill at ease being at a party with my boss.

Ways of restating what someone says, which is a useful technique for clarifying and parroting what a speaker says, and helps the listener with comprehension:
A: I'm a very organized person.
B: so what your saying is... you're uptight.
OR
A: I'm a very organized person.
B: In other words... you're very rigid.
A: Humans can't harm the planet.
B: If understand you correctly... you're saying global warming isn't caused by people.
OR
A: Humans can't harm the planet.
B: So you mean that...we don't have to worry about pollution or global warming.

Mini = small; a shortened version of 'miniscule'. It can mean 'compact' too, just like the car (Mini), and can be added to many nouns to show that something is smaller than the regular size.
well-known = famous.
Collaborative = the noun is collaboration, and it means to work together as a team on a project of some sort. It often collocates with effort e.g.: the conference was a collaborative effort.
