On this show, we discussed the phrasal verbs “to look up and look over” and we talked about the skypecaste.

Skypecaste
Bob talked about the skypecaste and his frustration at not being able to moderate. There will be another sypecaste on June 14th, 9 PM Japanese time, and we hope that you will join in and that Bob can connect this time.

We mentioned Ignacio’s idea for studying strategies by keeping words and phrases in a blog that classifies them automatically. He also gave some good links which are on the messages from the last show.

We tried to talk a bit about Oven’s comments on phonetics and dialects.

Phrasal Verb
“to look up” is a transitive phrasal verb and takes a direct object, so it can be split. It has several meanings:
1) it can mean to search for something in a dictionary e.g.: If you don’t know a word, look it up.
2) it can mean to locate and visit someone e.g.: If you come to Tokyo, you should look us up.
3) it can also have a literal meaning e.g: Wow, look up in the sky. Can you see that star?

“to look over” is also separable and means to check or review.
e.g: There may be some mistakes in this blog, please look it over for me.
