Costigan
Opinion, opinion, don’t mean a thing
when its based on an entity that don’t deserve to sing
and its all only said to feel relevent
you only speak kindly about your plans
Ain’t it a shame, the way the world works
they take for granted what they don’t deserve
If you don’t have what it takes to write your own record
then what is it that this record is meant for?
should you follow the market, or follow your heart?
creating sugarcoated products to fit in with the charts
So why should you believe in fame?
it’s not about who knows your name.
They tell you to be someone else,
but what’ve you got, if not yourself?
The talented and the talentless are advertised in the exact same way
write another song about the club so the machine gets paid
why should you even think this through?
don’t compromise what you believe in for anything,
because you’re worth more than their cheapened imagery
‘i’m sorry, you’re not good enough
these next few months are gonna be tough’
you’ll never have to hear them say
‘you may have given everything but we can’t sell integrity’
——-
Elaborating on a theme that was touched on in ‘Like
Weezy’,
this song was intentionally written to be the most
listener-friendly (poppy) song on the record so that
it’s lyrics would reach more ears.
It’s about the certain way in which many major label
artist’s are told to sound / appear in order to make
money and how negatively it affects the world around us.
Lust and revenge are the most dominant themes with many
artists fitting a cheapened image to sell you a dumbeddown
product that you otherwise probably wouldn’t buy
into. In other words; the airwaves could be put to much
better use.
We’d like to thank our very close friends in Heroes For
Hire for their help in making our simple melody ten
times more effective.
