Six Parts Seven - What (We Can Just Make Out) Post-rock in the 21st century is littered with moments that go for what The Six Parts Seven pull off constantly and seemingly effortlessly—the gentle rush of the pastoral. Their most stunning moments, as on “What (We Can Just Make Out), are their most modest. Indeed, the beauty of this song seems to shrink from itself, continually contracting from gentle peaks of whispered rapture, recoiling, and then spinning delicately outwards again. In the song’s second half, the instruments even fall away from each other, the impressionist piano and guitars avoiding the possibilities of companionship, and yet moments of heartfelt grace continue to bead like raindrops on a window, as if the band just can’t help being exquisite.
