I was so tired and hungry and broke I went to the brightest window The neon lights were blue and pink And garbage outside had just begun to stink I ordered the pork chop meal With potatoes and gravy, it seemed like a steal Comfort food they say it sticks to the ribs I ordered the strawberry malt like I did as a kid Now the waitress, her arms were covered in tracks She dropped the plate down and took two steps back I scraped the gravy away, then she asked: What’s wrong? I said there’s nothing here, nothing but a bone
She said: I’m gonna take this back I’ll find out what went wrong But when she came back, she said We’re out of the pork chop tonight And I thought: Had they been out all the time And just served me bone
It happened when I was really down and broke And that splurge seemed like a last hurrah But it went up in a pillar of smoke And it landed in my lap, it was just a bone And I said to my waitress: Angie Oh, you’re a very special lady But did you just try to serve me Did you just try to serve me a bone?
She said: I’m gonna take this back I’ll find out what went wrong But she came back, she said We’re out of the pork chop tonight And I thought: Had they been out all the time And just served me a bone
