Caucasian Encounters: Negotiating “Dangerous” Identities in Russia.
Based on the analysis of policy documents and interviews with young people from the North Caucasus, the presentation provides information on the Russian ethnic discourse(s) in the context of Kondopoga riots of 2006. It also discusses the identification of young people from the North Caucasus and the meanings their cultural identities have acquired in contemporary Russian society.
