12. When We Dance - Swingers/Dee Dee Bridgeport/Cali Jinetero/Gordon Utgard/Jim McMillen
A revolving studio group composed mostly of up-and-coming musicians was assembled for Swingin' to Sting & the Police: A Tribute, which presents about an even split of material from Sting's solo career and his stint with the Police. The dominant musical flavors here are smooth jazz and contemporary fusion, which are actually somewhat at odds with Sting's preference for more cerebral jazz, not to mention more cerebral music in general; as such, the approach sometimes works and sometimes sounds forced or grafted on. It's more likely to appeal to fans of smooth pop-jazz than to fans of Sting himself. ~ Steve Huey
