Beast
Act II, scn. 3:
Simon - Look at me! - I'm slipping from life's page. The echo of my face returns languidly Tomorrow my shadow will undoubtedly leave me for one less lucid in the sun (accursed sun!) Yet as certainly by moonrise, the black umbra comes Returning to veil me, to cover me, to smother me...
And as I purge my fear, abandon the lamb, I become clear of the beast I am
That's it! Dracula, you've done it again!: Of course you're clear in here, my dear! It's all becoming so very clear! Obvious, really! Drac, you must be blind as a bat! I've got the cape, I've got the teeth, I've got the nerve, I've got the time, I'll get the blood: I have all I require! Spooky enough I got the part... Mmm! They'll see that's just the start: When I become... ! What I become... !
I will meld these two men into one! A beast I am lest a beast I become!
{ He catches his own gaze in the mirror again }
I'm free! No longer a gear within the machine Day has become night, and Night become day Centuries ahead beckon me, I can taste immortality, There is little that is not within my grasp. The world is my stage and people mere props in my hands! A predator to the heard, blood is the meaning of life. That is the price, THAT is the price: Existence will cost me my soul!
Never more a man under the sun! A beast I am lest a beast I become!
