That questioned him in Greek:
He looked again, and found it was
The Middle of Next Week.
“The one thing I regret”, he said,
“Is that it cannot speak!”

Upon the chimney-piece:
He looked again, and found it was
His Sister's Husband's Niece.
“Unless you leave this house”, he said,
“I'll send for the Police!”

That opened with a key:
He looked again, and found it was
A Double Rule of Three:
“And all it's mystery”, he said,
“Is clear as day to me!”

“You'd best be getting home”, he said:
“The nights are very damp!”

“At length I realise”, he said,
“The bitterness of Life!”

“Прочь, прочь! Не то я позову
Полицию сюда!”

Открыта дверь ключом.
Но оказалось - это был
Квадрат с Кривым Плечом.
“Постигнуть Вашей тайны суть
Теперь мне нипочём.”

Под лампою кружит.
Но взгляд вторичный преподнёс
Почтовой Марки вид.
“Пора домой Вам. Ночь темна,
И сыростью грозит.”

На дудке менуэт.
Но присмотрелся и узнал
Записку от Жанетт.
“Теперь я знаю - Рок сильней!”-
И зарыдал Поэт.

Сбежала от Вдовы.
Но пригляделся - перед ним
Медведь без Головы.
“Бедняжку на обед к себе
Не пригласите ль вы?”
