On this eve of lingering darkness The fingers of frost begin to retreat A quest for the tinder that will warm my bones And on this night I enter a slumber The flame a trance Conceived in poplar Ablaze they dance To the hymns Of their own Transformations And as I stare Into the flame A conversation Of ancient ways Meditations Of transformation Entering realms Of those before Speaking to the flame Seeking to ascend Terrestrial planes Cede myself through pyre

I will lay my bones beside the river, mountain, and tree The coyote will feast upon my flesh as I have theirs My death will provide life for that which gave mine I will return In time flesh will rot Bones transcend into soil The marrow of our existence Will access a cyclical being I will join the spirits of those before in rock, root, and wind I will return With bones to break and a soul to be sown I will guard with this life the lessons Ive been shown Amidst the oaks and moss where the true treasures lie to decay with this loss lay this flesh down and die
