We got into a used car and flew down the highway. When the day began to dawn you were blessed by the dazzling sun. We talked like in those days when we were blundering around, thinking of how you’re going to get old as your kid grows up. You’ve become a father at 19 and found a life full of warmth. As we watched the dawning sky that day we both promised to lead a life of love.
In a daily life that takes all of your energies, your struggle is sustained by love it’s a small blessing for a life full of warmth. Living close to those you love, who have only you to rely on, makes you feel how precious happiness is. As you smiled remembering the punk you used to be you cast your head down with a tinge of sadness. You can’t laugh like you used to for the things of the past. Finally you sang over and over again:
Say goodbye, Scrap Alley, say goodbye to those times when I lived fast all by myself. Say goodbye to that battered old guitar, say goodbye to that worn out rock ‘n’ roll. Please get happier than you were in those days when you recklessly sought to hurt yourself. How many times can you sing to promise in your heart to seek a life of love? Say goodbye, Scrap Alley!
In those days we’d formed a crappy rock band, we raised the volume to stand out we put on airs and attracted the affection of the girls. When we raised the volume so much the sound was tearing all apart the police came and made a complaint but for a while we sang pretending to be unaware. You have no intention of remembering the past to sing its praises and feel nostalgic. From now on, when I think of the life you made for yourself I will always hear your voice shouting:
Say goodbye, Scrap Alley, say goodbye to those times when I lived fast all by myself. Say goodbye to that battered old guitar, say goodbye to that worn out rock ‘n’ roll. Please get happier than you were in those days when you recklessly sought to hurt yourself. How many times can you sing to promise in your heart to seek a life of love? Say goodbye, Scrap Alley, yeah!
