One Dead In Gas Leak

Moscow (AP) – One man died and 18 other people were hospitalised after a poisonous gas leak at a petro-chemical plant in the Samara region, officials said Thursday. A total of 52 people complained of the effects of the gas.
Workers began to feel ill late Thursday at the plant in the city of Novokuibyshevsk, said Emergency Situation Ministry spokesman Victor Beltsov.
A shift chief died of the effects of the gas, which he identified as isoprene. Many of those who felt ill were treated on the scene, but 15 were hospitalised. Hospital authorities said they were in satisfactory condition and some would be released soon, Itar-Tass reported.
