Кассия Константинопольская (805–867) - Византийский гимн №11 `Pelagia` | Текст песни

Ensemble `Voca Me`: Kathrin Feldmann (alto, mezzo-coprano), Sigrid Hausen (mezzo-soprano), Sarah M. Newman (soprano), Petra Noskaiova (mezzo-soprano), Gerlinde Samann (soprano), Michael Popp (music directon & instruments).

This Sticheron was written to commemorate the Pious Pelagia and is chanted at the Vespers service on October 8th, Kassia wrote this hymn to defend Pelagia, an infamous courtesan of Antioch in the late fourth century, who found her faith by accidentally going to a church where she heard a moving sermon that changed her life. Pelagia was baptized and then disappeared into a life of penance and prayer in Jerusalem where she became disguised as the male monk, "Pelagios the Eunuch" and performed many miracles. Her true identity was revealed only after her death.

Translation:
Wherever sin has become excessive, grace has abounded even more, as the Apostle teaches: for with tears and prayers, Pelagia, you have dried up the vast sea of sins, and through penitence brought about the result acceptable to the Lord: and now you intercede with him on behalf of our souls.
