Slottet ligger i enden av hovedgaten i Oslo: Karl Johans gate, men har adresse Henrik Ibsens gate 1. Det ble i 1822 bestemt at det skulle bygges et slott i Oslo. I 1848, 26 år etter, sto det ferdig og ble da tatt i bruk av svenske kongen Oscar 1.

I 1905, da Norge ble et selvstendig land, ble Slottet brukt som permanent kongebolig av kong Haakon. Kong Haakon døde på slottet i 1957. Kong Olav hadde slottet som fast bosted fra 1957-91, mens dagens kongepar: Kong Harald og dronning Sonja flyttet inn i 2001.

Slottsparken ligger rett bak slottet og har et areal på ca. 225 dekar. Parken består av to små sjøer og frodige trær. Videre finnes det også tre statuer i parken. Ada Madssens statue av dronning Maud(1959), samt Gustav Vigelands sine statuer av Niels Henrik Abel(1908) og Camilla Collet(1911).

The castle is laying in the end of the main street in Oslo: Karl Joahns Gate, but has the address Henrik Ibsens gate 1. It was decided in 1822 that it was going to be build a castle in Oslo. In 1848, 26 years after, it was finished and was then used by the Swedish King Oscar 1.

In 1905, when Norway got to be a independent country, the castle was used as a permanent royal residence of King Haakon. King Haakon died at the castle in 1957. King Olav had the castle as a permanent residence from 1957-91, while the current King and Queen: King Harald and Queen Sonja moved in in 2001.

Slottsparken(the castle park) is located just behind the castle and has an area of 225 acres. The park is consisted of two small lakes and fertile trees. Further it also exists three statues in the park. Ada Madssens statue of Queen Maud(1959) and Gustav Vigeland statues of Niels Henrik Abel(1908) and Camilla Collet(1911)
