Sonatina n. 4 ‘in Diem Nativitatis Christi MCMXVII’ Kind 274 (1917)
Busoni wrote the Sonatina n. 4 ‘in diem nativitatis Christi MCMXVII’, dedicated to his son Benvenuto, in December 1917. The opening three-part invention dissolves in a chorale which gives way to a pastorale, before the initial invention returns to end quietly in a mystic aura. Busoni gave the Sonatina's premiere, January 24, 1920, at the Zürich Tonhalle.
