Karlheinz Stockhausen's Klavierstück XIV (1984) is an extract from Montag (Monday), one of the operas from the composer's monumental cycle-in-progress Licht. The opera's action is centered on Eva, one of the three archetype-characters of the cycle. (Donnerstag takes Michael as its central character, while Samstag is centered on Lucifer). In the opera, Klavierstück XIV (Geburtstag-Formel) (Birthday Formula) is part of the scene \"Eva's Second Birth\"; like a number of other excerpts from the Licht cycle, Klavierstück XIV may be performed as an autonomous concert work.
