VA 1967 Music from the Himalayas – Recordings by Deben Bhattacharya
Ben is a one-stringed fiddle of the Karachi tribe of the Dimacha clan. Both the fiddle-string and the bow-string are made of strands of fibres of a locally grown palm tree. The fibres are held together by glue. The resonator of the instrument is half a coconut shell. The melody played in this band by a member of the tribe is sung by a young tribal girl in the following band.
